The EU’s Global and Development Dimensions
The Department of Global and Development Studies, an organizational unit within the Institute of Political and International Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Eötvös Loránd University, is the first university department in Hungary that focuses on development studies with a global scope. Professors of the Department teach in the International Relations BA and MA programmes, both of which are offered in English and in Hungarian.
The Department received funding from the EU’s Erasmus Programme for a “Jean Monnet Module”, a 2.5-year project in which professors design, test and teach a group of courses presenting the relationship between the EU and the rest of the world. The courses discuss the EU's global relations, development policy, neighbourhood policy, migration policy, climate policy, etc. The objective of the project is to ensure that ELTE’s students become more knowledgeable about the EU’s global and development dimensions. International students from outside Europe might find it especially relevant to learn more about the relationship between the EU and their region of origin.
The mid-term workshop concludes the lessons learned from the first half of the project and provides an opportunity for discussion, feedback and planning for the second half. Applications are welcome from professors, PhD, MA and BA students interested in EU foreign policy, global inequalities, development studies and regional studies.
