New Network awarded: Civil Society, Human Rights, and Regime Change in Central and Eastern Europe

Our network is built on the initial cooperation of the Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj-Napoca, Romania), the University of Belgrade (Serbia), Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest, Hungary), the Adam Mickiewicz University (Poznań, Poland) and the University of Zagreb (Croatia). However, we are committed to expanding the network in the upcoming years by further integrating universities and research institutions as potential silent partners.

The Network “Civil Society, Human Rights, and Regime Change in Central and Eastern Europe” covers several teaching and research areas, including political theory, constitutional theory, comparative constitutional law, comparative politics, democracy studies, European politics, human rights, citizenship, social movement, civil society studies, transition studies, law and sociology.

The network aims to promote mobility programs for professors, students and faculty to conduct joint research and curriculum development on civil society, human rights and regime change. We bring together scholars and students interested in historical perspectives, major political agendas, changes in human rights institutions, and the functioning of civil society in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region. By promoting the exchange of knowledge and fostering cross-border academic partnerships, the network seeks to deepen our understanding of these crucial areas of study and contribute to the shaping of democratic practices and policies and to the understanding of the different institutional practices.

The network is dedicated to the study of civil society, human rights, and regime change, recognizing that an in-depth exploration of these three fields in CEE provides valuable insights into the functioning of democratic societies. By investigating these foundational elements, we gain a deeper understanding of how democracies evolve, sustain themselves, or decline, as has been observed in various cases within the CEE region.

As a result of our collaboration, we aim to have an impact regionally and beyond. We aim to contribute to meaningful debates and foster critical dialogue on our core agenda. By producing research and educational programs, we hope to advance and enrich the discussions on fundamental issues of civil society, human rights, and regime change in the region.
